You don't have to set up a new one from scratch. The IntelliJ IDEA project has set up a build system that will work with gradle as is though. IntelliJ IDEA is an integrated development environment (IDE). IntelliJ IDEA seems to come with gradle but doesn't put it in the path. This is because IntelliJ (see below) requires Java 1.6 to run on OSX. I figured it out with a bit more trial and error.
